WHY RUGBY CASSEL?

Rugby 1×1

How does rugby even work? For those of you who know absolutely nothing about scrums, rucks, mauls and line-outs, here are a few basic rules.

We play according to the so-called Rugby Union rules, the most widely used set of rugby rules. The game is played in two variants:

15-a-side Rugby
15 players per team try to carry a ball as often as possible into the opponent’s end zone, the so-called paint field, on a field measuring approx. 70 x 100m within 2 x 40 minutes.

7s rugby or rugby sevens
This variant has been an Olympic sport since 2016 and differs from 15-a-side rugby in that only 7 players per team compete against each other. The playing time is 2 x 7 minutes on the same field size. Incidentally, the 2019 European men’s champion in this discipline was Germany.

A team scores 5 points by placing the ball on or behind the opposing team’s goal line, the so-called try line.
The scoring team then gets the chance to increase its try by 2 points to a total of 7 points with a kick on goal, the so-called increase.

A special feature of rugby compared to other ball sports is that the ball may only be passed or backwards or laterally at the same height. The ball may only be passed forwards with the foot.
If the ball is passed forwards or accidentally bounces forwards out of the hands, the opposing team is awarded a scrum.

A tackle is an attack on the ball carrier in which she may be hindered or brought down by clutching or holding her below the shoulder.
In a tackle, the tackler assumes responsibility for the safety of the ball carrier and must bring her safely to the ground. Otherwise, the tackler will be penalized with a yellow or red card.
